Penfolds latest collaboration with Japanese streetwear designer and music producer NIGO makes a stylish mark on the 180-year-old wine label’s iconic collection.

Inspired by the landmark red and white chimney which has towered over the Magill Estate winery for almost 100 years, Penfolds 65F by NIGO Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz 2021 is the fourth wine in the creative partnership. The wine’s name refers to the chimney’s height — 65 feet.

NIGO’s bottle label design takes inspiration from pressed Penfolds bottle labels from the 1930s, ’40s and ’50s, while its ethereal tissue paper wrapping was adapted from the Penfolds logo style used in the early 20th century.

Made with gifting in mind, a customisable chalkboard wine tag (Penfolds-branded chalk pencil included), pays homage to the chalk boards used in the original working winery at Penfolds Magill Estate. For whimsical touch, NIGO’s signature playful style is emphasised with a chimney smoke wine stopper.

Matured in 100 per cent French oak barriques, the 2021 vintage featured in this limited-edition release celebrates Penfolds time-honoured Australian tradition of blending cabernet sauvignon and shiraz. Handpicked from South Australia’s most coveted vineyards, this multi-regional blend is a masterclass in precision and artistry. Every element — from block selection to regional composition and oak integration — reflects the winemaking team’s meticulous craftsmanship and intuitive approach.

As the creative director of vintage-inspired label Human Made and the artistic director of KENZO, NIGO has long established himself as a cultural visionary and global icon. “It feels special to honour the first time I visited Penfolds Magill Estate with the design of 65F by NIGO,” he said. “The chimney has remained vivid in my memory as such a unique piece of Penfolds history and the opportunity to access and draw from Penfolds archival iconography for this project was an incomparable experience.”

Kristy Keyte, Penfolds’ chief marketing officer, said that the partnership with NIGO has allowed Penfolds to venture into the next frontier of cultural significance. “Working with him over the past two years has pushed us creatively and opened significant opportunities for Penfolds. NIGO and his team will always be a part of Penfolds family and DNA, and we look forward to watching and supporting NIGO’s work into the future.”

Penfolds introduced NIGO as its creative partner in June 2023 with the global launch of One by Penfolds, followed by Grange by NIGO in February 2024. Holiday Designed by NIGO was released in October 2024.

Penfolds 65F by NIGO Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz 2021 is available globally from Thursday 27 February 2025 available via penfolds.com, at select Dan Murphy’s stores nationally and select independent retailers (RRP AUD$395, 750ml).
