Rhys Kosakowski: Behind the Scenes Of Our Cover Shoot

After the decimation of the past two years, the arts sector is cautiously welcoming back audiences. For the rising dance star Rhys Kosakowski, our issue 8 cover star, the hiatus set the stage for a celebration of unapologetic originality.

The latest issue of T Australia: The New York Times Style Magazine features a photoshoot and exclusive interview with Rhys Kosakowski, our cover star.

Kosakowski is one of a kind and the true epitome of what T Australia is about. He’s best known for being a key player at Sydney Dance Company, but this shoot wasn’t his first rodeo. Also a model and content creator, Rhys has excelled in many areas (he was previously a makeup artist) and is now turning his creative energy to fashion. His positivity, curiosity and ability to pivot during challenging times shines through in the story and photographs, which was styled by Virginia van Heythuysen and shot by Levon Baird.

Featuring over 100 original, perfectly preserved designs dating back to the 1920s, the extensive exhibition was first shown at the Palais Galliera – the City of Paris Fashion Museum – early last year, but on display in Melbourne are additional designs from the NGV’s own collection, including a favourite of Whitfield’s. “I’m really proud we’ve been able to acquire a gorgeous red velvet evening cape from the 1920s, which will now feature in this exhibition,” she says. “It shows the restrained luxury that Chanel really advocated for, as well as a purity of material.”
